This occurs when a person is applying for credit with several lenders to find the best interest rate; usually for a mortgage or a car loan. When the lenders are pulling the consumer's credit report, and are coding the inquiry correctly, the consumer is allotted indefinite inquiries for this purpose within a 45 day period. Make sure the lender is coding this inquiry correctly!
